# Gnassingbé dynastic rule ## What this driver is Gnassingbé dynastic rule is one continuing domestic mechanism in Togo: a son who took the presidency in 2005 after Gnassingbé Eyadéma’s death and still holds executive power after a 2024 constitution that moved real authority into an indefinitely renewable President of the Council of Ministers chair he assumed on 3 May 2025. It is a mechanism, not a quiet-reformer brochure and not a Soviet-scope repression row. The driver is not a unique 2005 death census invented here, not Ukraine, and not eastern Congo.
