## What this driver is

Marcos Jr dynastic return is one continuing political mechanism in the Philippines: the 30 June 2022 restoration of the [Marcos](/people/imee-marcos) surname to Malacañang after a landslide, with a living president who praised his father’s “got it done” legacy at the oath, later said it was “wrong” to call that father a dictator, kept a drug-war architecture with fewer but continuing killings, and presided over a flood-control graft cluster that named his cousin as a central figure. It is a mechanism with dates, not a vibes presidency and not a 1972 martial-law gazette hung on the son as if he wrote it.

A 2025–26 infrastructure-graft cluster around DPWH flood projects implicated contractors and, per the Ombudsman, cousin and former Speaker Martin Romualdez as a central figure.
