# The Perseus Digital Library publishes a public Agamemnon text from the Smyth tradition

## The fact

By the late 1980s–1990s the Perseus Digital Library was publishing a public Smyth Agamemnon with notes, later mirrored as a durable URL. It is not a new papyrus.

## Context

Digital classics can freeze Smyth and can open search. Both are true. Sommerstein 2008 is a later Loeb recension stored separately.

[Aeschylus](/people/aeschylus) is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

The Perseus Agamemnon page is the official digital text. Britannica’s Oresteia article independently frames the trilogy as the surviving civic drama.
