# The UAE joins the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen

Date: 2015

## The fact

On 26 March 2015 the United Arab Emirates joined Operation Decisive Storm, the Saudi-led air-and-later-ground intervention in Yemen against the Houthi movement. [Mohamed bin Zayed](/people/mohamed-bin-zayed-al-nahyan) was crown prince and deputy supreme commander.

## Context

Saudi Arabia led. The UAE contributed aircraft and later ground forces, then backed southern groups. He was the security principal, not yet president. He did not write a UN Security Council resolution. Later drawdowns are neighbouring later instruments.

Later STC support and 2022 Yemen council meetings are neighbouring files. The Qatar blockade is 2017.

The president of the United Arab Emirates is elected by the Federal Supreme Council of the seven emirates and is, in this case, also Ruler of Abu Dhabi and supreme commander of the armed forces. He does not write UNFCCC consensus texts by himself, IAEA operating licences, Israeli Knesset statutes, or UN panel reports.

## Evidence and sources

Emirates News Agency carries the official instrument or communique. Reuters records the same dated act independently.

## Significance

The path is [humanitarian access](/drivers/humanitarian-access) and forced displacement: a completed intervention in Yemen produced civilian harm, blockade effects, and southern fragmentation. It is not a unique UAE homicide count.

## What is established and what is not

Established: a 26 March 2015 UAE entry into the Saudi-led Yemen intervention, independently reported.

Not established: a unique later Yemeni death coefficient as his personal count, or that the Houthis never fired.

What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date or name, a later repeal, a court that vacated the instrument, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions.

The date is the date of this instrument, not a licence to back-date every later harm or benefit.

Saudi Arabia led. Yemeni parties fought. The UN did not order the campaign.. A later repeal, court stay, or successor order would be a different Fact with a different date. That pair identifies The UAE joins the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen, not a later speech about The UAE joins the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen.

Co-authors and later implementers named in Context remain on the file. The UAE joins the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen on 2015-03-26 is not a licence to treat every later Emirates News Agency communique as this same act. If a later repeal, stay, or successor decree exists, it needs its own date and its own row. This dossier refuses to average The UAE joins the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen into a personality. The contribution described on this Person row is limited to He was deputy supreme commander and Abu Dhabi’s security principal. Saudi Arabia led. Yemeni parties fought. The UN did not order the campaign. That limit is the alternative to treating office-holding as authorship of every later series.
