# Priscus’s banquet pages, as taught in public English, expose court speech, drink, and body as political data

Date: 1996

## The fact

The same Fordham Priscus excerpt that shows extraction also publishes jokes, drunkenness, and bodily presence of named people at [Attila](/people/attila)’s table. Later readers treat that as ethnographic data. Attila did not consent to a 1996 webpage.

## Context

Privacy language is anachronistic. The weak harm is later conversion of a banquet into a standing surveillance-like file of persons. Confidence low.

Attila is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

## Evidence and sources

Museum, UNESCO, or critical-edition pages and an independent publisher independently describe this instrument. No fifth-century autograph file is claimed.

Official or archival record: Fordham Sourcebook — Priscus at the court of Attila (https://sourcebooks.fordham.edu/source/priscus1.asp; Fordham University).

## Significance

A public banquet transcript is a weak data path. Do not write a GDPR coefficient for 449.

## What is established and what is not

Established as a dated later public record of this tradition or site. Not established: a Hun headcount or a medical cause of death as original numbers.

What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date or name, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions.

The date is the date of this instrument, not a licence to back-date every later harm or benefit.
Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, and museums are not converted into extra lifetime acts. The attached driver is [personal-data-protection](/drivers/personal-data-protection). The welfare reading used in this dossier is worsening. That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself. Confidence is stated on the impact path. A later English edition is not a recovered autograph. If a number is not in the two records named above, it is not supplied here.
