# Iran opens the modern Avicenna mausoleum and museum at Hamadan as a public knowledge monument

Date: 1954

## The fact

In 1954 the rebuilt [Avicenna](/people/avicenna) mausoleum at Hamadan, with museum rooms, opened as a public monument to the physician-philosopher. Visit Iran and later UNESCO ethics materials treat the tomb as a knowledge site. Avicenna did not commission Seyhoun’s tower. A museum-tomb is civic teaching, not a clinic.

## Context

National commemoration can be propaganda. Split industrial branding. High confidence on the 1950s monument as a received date, with architectural attribution to later architects stated.

Avicenna is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

## Significance

A 1954 mausoleum-museum is a public-history access path, not a 1037 tomb autograph.

## What is established and what is not

Established as a dated public record of this instrument.

What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date or name, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions.

The date is the date of this instrument, not a licence to back-date every later harm or benefit.
