# Balog resigns as Reformed Church synod president over pardon scandal

On 16 February 2024 Bishop [Zoltán Balog](/people/zoltan-balog), a former Orbán minister, resigned as president of the Hungarian Reformed Church synod after it emerged he had backed the clemency for a man convicted of helping cover up child sexual abuse; President [Katalin Novák](/people/katalin-novak) had resigned days earlier.
