# University of Hong Kong fires Benny Tai

On 28 July 2020 the governing council of the University of Hong Kong dismissed law professor [Benny Tai](/people/benny-tai) because of his criminal conviction. The decision overrode an earlier finding by the university senate that, although Tai had committed misconduct, there were not enough grounds to fire him.
