# Cabello filed criminal defamation proceedings against three media outlets

After El Nacional, La Patilla and Tal Cual republished reporting alleging that [Cabello](/people/diosdado-cabello) was linked to drug trafficking, Cabello filed a criminal defamation action against directors of the outlets. Cabello denied the underlying allegations. The IACHR and CPJ later treated the litigation as a freedom-of-expression concern.
