## The fact

Suetonius, Dio, and Josephus print that after the killing the Praetorians put Claudius on the throne, ending the living-god experiment as a court fact. The dated Loeb cluster is the carrier. Succession by guard is still corruption; welfare improves because the statue order and the personal cult stopped. Driver: weakening of Gaius’s personalised corruption machine.
