Suetonius lists finishing the Temple of Augustus and other building as early public piety. The dated Loeb is the carrier. Dynastic temples can glue an elite and exclude others.

## Context

Piety toward Augustus is also a legitimacy tool. Split living-self-cult onto the worsening temple row. Completion of a predecessor’s temple is a different instrument.

[Caligula](/people/caligula) is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
