# Schlesinger publishes Chopin’s Nocturnes Op. 9 in Paris

Date: 1832

## The fact

In 1832 Maurice Schlesinger issued [Chopin](/people/frederic-chopin)’s Three Nocturnes, Op. 9, in Paris, dedicated to Marie Pleyel, as engraved piano music for sale. Op. 9 No. Chopin wrote the pieces; engravers and shop clerks manufactured copies. The row stores one opus. It does not split the three pieces into twin Facts, and it does not treat a twentieth-century recording as this engraving.

9 in Paris (1832-12-01).

## Context

Paris sheet music in the early July Monarchy was a bourgeois furniture of evenings: piano in the drawing-room, a title page with a dedication, a price. Chopin used John Field’s night-piece idea and wrote a more chromatic, vocal piano line. Marie Pleyel’s dedication ties the print to a professional pianist-wife of the maker, which is a social fact, not a claim that she composed Op. 9. Do not merge it with the 1839 Preludes. A nocturne on the stand is a cohesion instrument because several households can play the same piece the same winter. Field’s earlier night pieces are the model, not this colophon; Marie Pleyel’s name on the title is a dedication, not co-authorship of Op. 9.

Shared responsibility is part of Schlesinger publishes Chopin’s Nocturnes Op. 9 in Paris. Naming Frédéric Chopin does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1832-12-01 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.

## Evidence and sources

BnF authority and catalogue pages identify Chopin’s Paris prints and Schlesinger’s house. IMSLP independently reproduces nineteenth-century plates of Op. 9, showing the work as a sold object. Official: https://data.bnf.fr/en/13892479/frederic_chopin/. Independent: https://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Chopin,_Fr%C3%A9d%C3%A9ric. Different organisations. The records establish opus, publisher, and early-1830s issue. They do not establish a unique later amateur-piano ownership series.

## Significance

Improving cohesion path: a printable night piece circulated beyond the one concert hall. High confidence on the opus and publisher. Modest weight: sheet music is not a statute. Later sentimental films that use Op. 9 No. 2 are adaptations, not this engraving.

## What is established and what is not

Established: Op. 9 was published in Paris by Schlesinger in 1832 as Chopin’s nocturnes. Not established: that every later drawing-room that played No. 2 was a direct pupil, or a unique cohesion coefficient. A contradictory first-edition title page with another publisher for this opus would change the row.

9 in Paris on 1832-12-01. Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.

9 in Paris, a demonstrated forgery of the cited carrier, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions. If a number is not in the two records named above, it is not supplied here.

Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. One opus, one Fact. Do not mint a twin for each nocturne. Mixed effects of Schlesinger publishes Chopin’s Nocturnes Op. 9 in Paris are separate paths.

The attached driver is [social-cohesion](/drivers/social-cohesion). The welfare reading used in this dossier is improving. That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself.
