# Chile rejects first proposed constitution

The proposed Political Constitution of the Republic of Chile of 2022 was a draft constitution written by the [Constitutional Convention of Chile](/organizations/constitutional-convention-of-chile) between 4 July 2021 and 4 July 2022, intended to replace the 1980 Constitution enacted under the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. An early draft was released on 14 May 2022, and the final text was formally delivered to President [Gabriel Boric](/people/gabriel-boric) on 4 July 2022.
