# Ahr valley floods kill more than 180 people during Merkel’s last summer

Date: 2021

In mid-July 2021 floods in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia killed more than 180 people. Warning and Länder response failed in places. A federal chancellor does not run a county siren. The disaster is still a public-administration record of her last term.
