# Scholz announces a defence-policy Zeitenwende in the Bundestag

On 27 February 2022, three days after Russia’s full-scale invasion, the chancellor told the Bundestag that Germany faced a turning point, pledged a 100 billion euro special fund, and said defence spending would rise above two percent of GDP. A speech is not an appropriation.
