# U.S. files civil forfeiture suits naming Jho Low over 1MDB funds

On 20 July 2016 the U.S. Justice Department filed civil forfeiture complaints targeting more than $1 billion in assets said to have been bought with money diverted from the Malaysian state fund 1MDB. The filings described Low Taek Jho ([Jho Low](/people/jho-low)) as a central figure who attended 1MDB board meetings and served as a link to the prime minister.
