# Csaba Dömötör takes up European Parliament seat

In September 2024 state secretary [Csaba Dömötör](/people/csaba-domotor) took the European Parliament seat vacated by Fidesz MEP Balázs Győrffy, who resigned amid an assault scandal. Győrffy's resignation took effect on 2 September, and on 19 September Hungary's National Election Commission unanimously assigned the mandate to Dömötör.
