After commutation, [Dostoyevsky](/people/fyodor-dostoyevsky) was sent in convoy from the Peter and Paul world toward Omsk, a forced winter displacement that ended in the fortress prison in January 1850. It is not katorga-as-labour and not the Square.

## Context

Displace path: a person moved by the state across the empire. Shared with other convicts in the convoy. Distinct from later chosen European trips. Those trips were debts; this was a chain.
