# Berlin museums refuse Egyptian requests to loan the bust

## The fact

Berlin’s museums have repeatedly refused Egyptian requests to exhibit the bust in Cairo, citing the object’s fragility. The refusals are completed institutional acts. Fragility may be real. It is also a governance choice that keeps the icon in Germany.

Loans of other objects happen. This object is treated as too famous to travel. That exceptionalism is the political content. Conservation science should be published if it is the true reason.
