After Amarna, later 18th-Dynasty restorations recut Aten monuments and omitted Amarna royal names, including [Nefertiti](/people/nefertiti)’s, as part of returning Amun to public walls. Conventional dating sits near the 1330s BCE.

## Context

Damnatio of a religious episode is not a modern libel statute. It is still a state decision about whose name may be seen. [Tutankhamun](/people/tutankhamun)’s restoration stela is a related but separate instrument.

Nefertiti is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
