# California enacts 2022 climate package with binding interim clean-electricity targets

On 16 September 2022 Governor [Gavin Newsom](/people/edu-gavin-newsom) signed a package of California climate laws. SB 1020 established interim targets of 90 percent clean electricity by 2035 and 95 percent by 2040 on the path to the state's existing 100 percent clean-electricity goal for 2045. This record is limited to the enacted package and does not treat separate offshore-wind planning as part of the same signing action.
