# European Commission launches the European Green Deal (2019)

On 11 December 2019, the European Commission under President [Ursula von der Leyen](/people/energy-ursula-von-der-leyen) presented the European Green Deal, a roadmap to make the EU climate-neutral by 2050 spanning energy, industry, transport, buildings and agriculture. Executive Vice-President [Frans Timmermans](/people/env-frans-timmermans) was placed in charge of the package, which von der Leyen described as Europe's 'man on the moon moment'.
