# EU institutions agree an ethics body without independent investigative powers

In 2024 the Parliament under [Metsola](/people/gov-roberta-metsola) joined an interinstitutional ethics body that transparency groups said lacked investigative and sanctioning teeth after Qatargate. Agreement is a completed integrity act, not a finding that MEPs are all corrupt.
