# Parliament backs a 10,000-strong European Border and Coast Guard standing corps

In April 2019 [Metsola](/people/gov-roberta-metsola) was Parliament’s rapporteur on the Border and Coast Guard regulation that legislated a standing corps of 10,000 by 2027. Adoption is co-legislative. A corps target is not a boat already at sea.
