# Commission publishes the EU Vaccines Strategy

On 17 June 2020 the Commission published communication COM(2020) 245, the EU Vaccines Strategy, and then negotiated advance purchase agreements intended to supply member states from a common portfolio. Delivery later occurred at scale after a slow start in early 2021. The strategy is a Commission administrative and contracting act under von der [Leyen](/people/energy-ursula-von-der-leyen)'s presidency, implemented with the health commissioner and member-state steering.
