On 5 July 2016 FBI Director [James Comey](/people/james-comey) announced the end of the investigation into [Hillary Clinton](/people/hillary-clinton)'s use of a private email server as Secretary of State. He said Clinton and her staff had been 'extremely careless' with classified information but that the FBI would not recommend criminal charges.
