# Macron dissolves the National Assembly after the European election

Date: 2024

On 9 June 2024 the president dissolved the [National Assembly](/organizations/national-assembly) after his list was defeated in the European Parliament election. Snap elections in June and July produced a hung Assembly and a prolonged period without a stable majority. Dissolution is a completed constitutional act.
