# Paris court convicts Le Pen of embezzling European Parliament funds

On 31 March 2025 a Paris court found [Marine Le Pen](/people/marine-le-pen) guilty of embezzling European Parliament assistant funds, with a prison term partly suspended and ineligibility. The judgment is first-instance and under appeal. It is still a completed judicial act.

The Paris Criminal Court convicted Marine Le Pen on 31 March 2025 in the European Parliament assistants case. Reuters reported the post-verdict sentence and immediate ineligibility measure. The Paris Court of Appeal decided the appeal on 7 July 2026, upheld the conviction and modified the penalties; the appellate press release states that the firm portion of the ineligibility period had already been served from 31 March 2025.
