# European Parliament opens recovery of FN assistant payments

Date: 2015

From 2015 the Parliament sought to recover assistant payments it said were used for national party work. Recovery is an oversight act that later fed the 2025 trial. It is not yet the conviction.

The later criminal judgment confirms that the European Parliament assistants investigation concerned the use of parliamentary funds for staff who worked for the party rather than for the parliamentary functions for which the money was provided. OLAF has described how its investigations into the misuse of EU funds fed into the 2025 Paris verdict.
