# Gabbard leaves the Democratic Party

On 11 October 2022, [Gabbard](/people/tulsi-gabbard) announced that she was leaving the Democratic Party after years of increasing conflict with its leadership and foreign-policy direction. The move ended the party affiliation under which she had served in Congress and became part of a broader political realignment.
