# Gorsuch writes Bostock opinion extending job protections to LGBT workers

On 15 June 2020 Justice [Neil Gorsuch](/people/neil-gorsuch) delivered the 6–3 majority opinion in Bostock v. Clayton County. The Supreme Court held that an employer who dismisses a worker simply for being gay or transgender violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and it reversed and remanded the lower-court ruling in the Bostock case.
