# European Parliament amends its Rules of Procedure to strengthen integrity and transparency

Date: 2023

On 13 September 2023 the European Parliament amended its Rules of Procedure to enhance integrity, transparency and accountability, with the changes entering into force on 1 November 2023. MEPs became obliged to file comprehensive declarations of financial interests, including assets at the start and end of their term and additional income above €5,000 a year, and all meetings with third-country representatives or interest groups must be published online. The reforms followed the Qatargate scandal and President Metsola's 14-point plan.
