# Bob Menendez sentenced to 11 years in prison for corruption

On 29 January 2025, US District Judge Sidney Stein sentenced former Senator Bob Menendez to 11 years in prison following his July 2024 conviction on bribery, extortion, obstruction and foreign-agent charges. The judge told Menendez, 'You stood at the apex of our political system,' and 'Somewhere along the way, you lost your way.' The term was below the federal sentencing-guideline range, which had suggested up to roughly 30 years.
