# Greece suspends asylum claims and holds the Evros border after Turkey opens exits

In late February and March 2020, after Turkey said it would no longer stop exits, Greece suspended asylum applications for a month and used force at Evros. Mitsotakis framed it as a defence of Europe’s border. Suspension is a completed legal act, not a finding about every later Aegean case.
