# Weber’s post-Seven departure ends the Göttingen magnetic partnership

## The fact

In 1838, following the 1837 dismissal, Wilhelm Weber’s working partnership with [Gauss](/people/carl-friedrich-gauss) in Göttingen was effectively broken as a daily shop; Weber’s path led toward Leipzig, while Gauss remained observatory director under the same crown. It is not the December 1837 silence stored as justice, and not the 1833 wire stored as industry. Two men who had sent signals across town now sat in different political worlds. The row stores polarization of a lab. It does not claim Gauss wrote the exile order.

## What is established and what is not

Established: after 1837–38 the Gauss–Weber Göttingen shop ended as a daily partnership. Not established: that Gauss ordered the dismissal, or that 1833 is this split. A 1838 joint laboratory diary of continued co-work would change the row.
