In 1714 Leibniz composed the Monadology as a dated compact digest of monads and pre-established harmony for court readers. Lifetime publication came later; the instrument stored here is the 1714 composition, not a posthumous first edition as a second act.

Composition year and first print year differ. SEP and GWLB independently treat the Monadology as a late digest. Do not invent a 1714 bookshop colophon if the first print is later.
