# Hernández sentenced to 45 years in U.S. prison

On 26 June 2024 U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel sentenced [Juan Orlando Hernández](/people/juan-orlando-hernandez), who was president of Honduras from 2014 to 2022, to 45 years in prison for drug-trafficking and weapons crimes. The judge also imposed a fine of $8 million on the former president.
