# Hegel and Schelling issue the Critical Journal of Philosophy

Date: 1802

## The fact

In 1802–03 [Hegel](/people/georg-wilhelm-friedrich-hegel) and Schelling issued Kritisches Journal der Philosophie at Jena, a short-lived review in which Hegel published substantial essays (including on faith and knowledge and on natural right) under a shared editorial roof. It is not the 1827 Berlin Jahrbücher, not the 1807 Phenomenology, and not the later Schelling split. Schelling’s name opened doors; Hegel wrote heavy copy. The row stores one educational review. It does not twin every essay as a book. The 1802 natural-right essay is a signed argument inside the carrier; 1827 Jahrbücher are a later Berlin camp organ. Unpaid Privatdozent hours are a labour neighbour of the same hill.

## Context

A review that teaches a public how to map Fichte, Jacobi, and natural right is education. It is also a pre-break alliance object. Do not merge with 1827 camp journalism. Do not treat Glauben und Wissen as a second 1802 Fact unless split — here it stays inside the journal cluster. Jena students could buy the numbers. Unpaid Privatdozent hours are a labour neighbour of the same hill. A short-lived journal is still a public syllabus. Glauben und Wissen stays inside this review cluster rather than minting a second 1802 book; 1827 Jahrbücher are a later, partisan Berlin organ.

## Evidence and sources

Jena University locates the 1802 philosophy market. SEP independently dates the Critical Journal collaboration and Hegel’s 1802–03 essays. Official: https://www.uni-jena.de/en. Independent: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/hegel/. The records establish the 1802–03 journal. They do not establish a unique later review-citation series. 1827 Jahrbücher are not this Jena review. A showing of no such journal would change the row.

Official or archival record: Friedrich Schiller University Jena (https://www.uni-jena.de/en; Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena).

## Significance

Improving education path: a copyable review. High confidence on 1802–03. Modest weight. 1827 Jahrbücher remain a polarizing later organ. 1807 split remains a later sign. Do not invent a unique modern journal-impact coefficient.

If a number is not in the two records named above, it is not supplied here.

## What is established and what is not

Established: Hegel co-edited the Critical Journal of Philosophy in 1802–03 with Schelling. Not established: that 1827 is this journal, or that Phenomenology is this review. A 1802 without the journal would change the row. A contradictory 1802 without the journal would change the row.

Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. Critical Journal is not the 1827 Jahrbücher and not Phenomenology. Mixed effects of Hegel and Schelling issue the Critical Journal of Philosophy are separate paths.

Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.

Shared responsibility is part of Hegel and Schelling issue the Critical Journal of Philosophy. Naming Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1802-01-01 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.
