# Benny Tai sentenced to 10 years in 'Hong Kong 47' case

On 19 November 2024 former law professor [Benny Tai](/people/benny-tai) received a 10-year sentence for conspiracy to commit subversion over an unofficial 2020 opposition primary, the longest among the 45 defendants sentenced. The court called him the initiator of the scheme; the others, including Joshua Wong, received terms of roughly four to almost eight years.
