# House passes Ryan-backed American Health Care Act

Date: 2017

On 4 May 2017 the House under Speaker [Paul Ryan](/people/paul-ryan) passed the American Health Care Act by 217 to 213 to repeal and replace much of the Affordable Care Act. The Congressional Budget Office estimated the bill would leave millions more people uninsured; it died in the Senate.
