# CJEU holds that Hungary's early end of the data-protection commissioner's term breaches EU law

Date: 2014

On 8 April 2014 the Court of Justice held in Commission v Hungary (C-288/12) that prematurely ending the data-protection commissioner's term when NAIH replaced the office breached the independence required by EU data-protection law. This Fact is that dated judgment. It is not the 2012 judicial-retirement judgment, not a later media-council sitting, and not a personality. The CJEU judgment is the official file; Euractiv's contemporaneous report is the independent file.
