# Hungary adopts Act CCIII of 2011 on the election of Members of the National Assembly

Date: 2011

On 23 December 2011 the [National Assembly](/organizations/national-assembly) adopted Act CCIII of 2011 on the election of Members of the National Assembly, in force from 1 January 2012. The cardinal statute cut the chamber to 199 seats, redrew single-member constituencies, and locked winner-compensation rules that an ordinary majority cannot later unlock. The Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR issued a joint 2012 opinion on the act. This Fact is that dated electoral lock. It is not the 2022 wartime-emergency ballot, not a later Tisza statute, and not a personality. Official text sits in the National Legal Database; the Venice Commission–ODIHR joint opinion is the independent file.
