# Hungary adopts the Ninth Amendment to the Fundamental Law, defining family as based on marriage of a man and a woman

On 15 December 2020 the [National Assembly](/organizations/national-assembly) adopted the Ninth Amendment to the Fundamental Law, writing that the mother is a woman, the father is a man, and the family is based on marriage of a man and a woman, and tightening adoption and public-education clauses later used in the 2021 child-protection statute. This Fact is that amendment sitting. It is not the 2011 Fundamental Law, not the 2021 statute taken alone, and not a personality.
