# Braverman introduces Illegal Migration Bill

On 7 March 2023 Home Secretary [Suella Braverman](/people/suella-braverman) introduced the Illegal Migration Bill, which placed a duty on the government to detain and remove people arriving irregularly by small boat; she stated on the bill that she could not confirm it was compatible with the European Convention on Human Rights.
