# Katrín Jakobsdóttir becomes Prime Minister of Iceland

On 30 November 2017 Left-Green leader [Katrín Jakobsdóttir](/people/katrin-jakobsdottir) became Iceland's prime minister at the head of an unusual three-party coalition with the conservative [Independence Party](/organizations/independence-party) and the centre-right Progressive Party. The snap election had been called after a scandal over a letter recommending a convicted paedophile brought down the previous coalition.
