# Joan is examined at Chinon and received into Charles of Valois’s war council circuit

Date: 1429

## The fact

In early 1429 Joan was brought to Chinon, examined, and allowed into the Valois war effort around Charles VII. This catalog stores the documented court reception. It does not store inner voices as a verified supernatural Fact.

## Context

English and Burgundian parties held Paris and much of the north. A fortress audience is a political instrument. Birth year remains c.1412 in public biographies; no parish register is cited here as an autograph 1412 file.

[Joan of Arc](/people/joan-of-arc) is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

## Evidence and sources

The Chinon fortress interpretation and Britannica independently date the 1429 reception.

Official or archival record: Forteresse royale de Chinon (https://www.forteressechinon.fr/; Centre des monuments nationaux / Chinon).

## Significance

Legitimacy path for the Valois restoration. High confidence on a Chinon examination; none on private revelation as physics.

A court filter is not Orléans. Keep the siege on its own row.

## What is established and what is not

Established: a 1429 Chinon examination and reception into Charles’s circuit. Not established: that visions are historically verified events, or that Joan already commanded the royal army.

What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date or name, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions.

The date is the date of this instrument, not a licence to back-date every later harm or benefit.
