## The fact

In the later twentieth century the French far right institutionalised a May [Joan of Arc](/people/joan-of-arc) demonstration as a party brand. This Fact stores that street-political capture of the name.

## Context

Republican, Catholic, feminist and far-right uses can coexist in one city on different days. Women’s legal-memory remains a separate improving path.

Joan of Arc is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
