# Valois forces take Jargeau in the Loire campaign with Joan in the field

Date: 1429

## The fact

On 12 June 1429 Jargeau fell to the Valois Loire campaign in which Joan took part.

## Context

Occupation garrisons lived off the country. Their removal is a political-cohesion gain for Charles’s party and a harm to the garrison.

[Joan of Arc](/people/joan-of-arc) is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

## Evidence and sources

Civic Loire memory via Orléans public pages and Britannica’s campaign narrative independently place Jargeau in June 1429.

Official or archival record: Orléans Métropole (https://www.orleans-metropole.fr/; Orléans Métropole).

## Significance

Territorial-cohesion path. High confidence on the date in the standard campaign; medium on welfare size.

A town assault is not Patay. Keep the field battle separate.

## What is established and what is not

Established: Jargeau taken 12 June 1429 in the same campaign as Orléans. Not established: a unique tactical invention by Joan that other captains lacked.

What would change the picture: a contradictory original with a different date or name, or a measured series that can be argued, with lag and alternatives, as a consequence of this instrument rather than of later institutions.

The date is the date of this instrument, not a licence to back-date every later harm or benefit.
