On 21 February 2024, Justice [Ketanji Brown Jackson](/people/ketanji-brown-jackson) delivered the unanimous Supreme Court opinion in McElrath v. Georgia. The Court held that the Double Jeopardy Clause barred Georgia from retrying the defendant for the charge on which the jury had returned an acquittal.
