# Kásler leaves National Institute of Oncology to become minister

Date: 2018

In May 2018 [Miklós Kásler](/people/miklos-kasler) stepped down as director-general of the National Institute of Oncology, which he had led for more than 25 years, on becoming minister. He handed over to Professor Csaba Polgár, head of the institute's radiotherapy centre, who became acting director-general and praised Kásler's expertise and humane treatment of patients and staff.
